چکیده

A novel energy-dissipation system for frame-core tube structure equipped with damped outriggers is studied experimentally. A steel frame-core tube structure model is designed and manufactured, in which viscous dampers are inserted vertically between the outrigger and fame columns to make full use of motion discrepancy of these two components. Shaking table tests of the building with damped or fixed outriggers is carried out and compared for a set of earthquake records with various PGAs. 3D finite element models, representing the test models of the structure have been developed in SAP2000. A modified analytical model of dampers is proposed and used in numerical simulation, exhibiting improved agreement with experimental results. The results of shaking table test of the novel energy-dissipation system show the damped outrigger system can achieve a better performance than the fixed outrigger structure in reducing the seismic responses of the structure. Thus, the damped outrigger system provides an economical and effective strategy for improving the performance of the frame-core tube structure under earthquake excitation.

Recent design of buildings utilizes different strategies to mitigate the lateral displacement and acceleration from wind and earthquake excitation. One of the strategies is to dissipate external energy with dampers. For high-rise buildings, outrigger systems which connect the core and perimeter columns are innovative system, which to combine stiffness of both the core and perimeter columns to r...

Evaluation of Stiffness Changes in a High-Rise Building by Measurements of Lateral Displacements Using GPS Technology

The outrigger truss system is one of the most frequently used lateral load resisting structural systems. However, little research has been reported on the effect of installation of outrigger trusses on improvement of lateral stiffness of a high-rise building through full-scale measurements. In this paper, stiffness changes of a high-rise building due to installation of outrigger trusses have be...

Parametric Study of Qutrigger Braced and Belt System in Tall Building Structures

Current innovative lateral load carrying systems for tall buildings are those in which the lateral drift is limited to an allowable value without considerable influence on economy. This aim is achieved by using special systems capable of using maximum stiffness and strength capacity of individual structural elements. An effective structural solution in this respect is the use of outrigger brace...

Optimum Location of Outrigger-belt Truss in Tall Buildings Based on Maximization of the Belt Truss Strain Energy

In this paper, based on maximizing the outrigger-belt truss system’s strain energy, a methodology for determining the optimum location of an outrigger-belt truss system is presented. Tall building structures with combined systems of framed tube, shear core and outrigger-belt truss system’s are modeled using continuum approach. In this approach, the framed tube system is modeled as a cantilevere...
